Jarrod Bowen bemoaned an "awful" day at the office after West Ham were hammered by Aston Villa on Sunday, as David Moyes warned his regulars he is not afraid to shake up his first-choice team.
Douglas Luiz's double and goals from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey saw the home side to a comfortable win here, as the Hammers suffered their first significant setback of the new campaign.
Jarrod Bowen's deflected strike, which saw him join Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry as the only players to score in five straight away games at the start of a Premier League campaign, was the only consolation for Moyes's side, and the winger challenged his team-mates to bounce back when they play at Olympiacos on Thursday.
"It's not easy," Bowen said. "We deal with it, face it, it's done now. It was an awful day from all of us, something you don't want to be on the end of, conceding four goals. It's really disappointing, a poor performance from us.
"The good thing is there are a lot of games coming up. We can be down about it, let it hurt, but it's a new week, we go to Greece and then we're back in the Premier League. There's a lot of games to put it right."
Moyes has settled on a consistent first XI over the last two months, naming the same line-up in each of the club's last five League matches. The Scot has used cup competitions to give minutes to those on the fringes, but none, including summer signing Mohammed Kudus, have managed to turn cameos into more regular roles.
However, on the back of a dismal display, Moyes hinted that those afforded further chances to impress at Olympiacos could keep their places when Everton visit London Stadium next weekend. "I'm not having my team lose four goals," Moyes said.
"We might be getting a lot of new players helping us play better, but I'm not having a team that is going to lose four goals as soft as we did."
