David Moyes makes Frank Lampard admission ahead of West Ham’s Everton clash after Chelsea record

West Ham United boss David Moyes admits he is glad he no longer he has to come up against Frank Lampard as a player after his career record against his Everton side.

For the majority of Lampard’s playing career after breaking through at West Ham, he was at Chelsea and as a midfielder, scored 274 goals in 915 club appearances during a career that spanned over two decades.

Of that impressive goal haul, 211 of them came in 648 appearances for Chelsea between 2001 and 2014, a 13-year spell that coincided with Hammers boss Moyes’ spell at Everton between 2002 and 2013, managing the Toffees over 500 times in all competitions.

Not just his record for Chelsea, but against Everton, Lampard scored ten times and provided five assists in 39 appearances in his playing career, including the winner in the 2009 FA Cup final, against Moyes’ men. Only against Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers did Lampard score more goals during his entire career.

Now, Everton are managed by Lampard, while Moyes is in charge of one of Lampard’s former sides in West Ham and ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash, Moyes admits he is glad he no longer has to manage against Lampard the player.

“I’m probably glad he [Lampard] is not a player any more, that is for sure because he had an incredible goalscoring record for Chelsea, so that’s where I remember him from and obviously he was a top player,” said Moyes.

“Maybe not quite so many [wins against him] as a manager yet but Frank is building a new team at Everton as well and is building them in a new direction. We wish him well, but not at the moment that is for sure.”
