David Moyes identifies the one place still up for grabs in his West Ham United side

West Ham manager David Moyes has explained that the left-wing position within his squad is 'up for grabs' ahead of the Hammers' trip to Anfield on Wednesday evening.

With the likes of Said Benrahma, Pablo Fonals, and summer acquisitions Maxwell Cornet and Lucas Paqueta all tried and tested in that position, it remains unclear as to who is the asserted starter alongside Gianluca Scamacca and Jarrod Bowen in the front three.

In their 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday afternoon, it was Paqueta who operated in that position but was unable to provide that spark to unlock the Saints defence, replaced in the final minutes of the match by Michail Antonio as Moyes tinkered with his personnel to try and grab all three points.

Of the aforementioned players, it has been Benrahma that has made the most appearances from that particular position, often moving into a more central position when the likes of Cornet are introduced from the bench.

It has been a position of disappointment so far this season, with the quartet of players used within that position providing just two goals and one assist so far this season, coming from Benrahma and Paqueta.

But speaking ahead of the fixture with Jurgen Klopp's side, the Hammers boss explained that the left-sided attacking position was the one most up for grabs for the players within his squad but insisted that his side are flexible within that area of the pitch.

"I think that area of the pitch, we have used them in different ways," explained Moyes. "I think Said gives us something different at different times in different games. I think Pablo gives us great legs and energy and fills in and does all of the jobs for us.

"I think Maxi is here to play there at times as well who has got probably a good goal scoring record. We try to give ourselves a chance to be flexible and I've got to say, Said and Pablo can also play in different roles as well, off the right, no.10, so we've got a bit of competition, but that area is probably more up for grabs.

"I can play Emerson as a wing-back or a full-back which gives me options as well if we need to go to five at the back."
