West Ham United manager David Moyes has said that right-back Harrison Ashby wanted to leave the club ahead of his imminent £3million move to Newcastle United.
The Scottish right-back is set to complete a switch to St. James' Park imminently after a deal worth £3m plus add-ons was agreed with the Hammers for the 21-year-old on Sunday.
Speaking on the move, which is close to being finalised, Moyes said that the Scottish defender wanted to complete a move, with Newcastle coming close to signing him in the summer.

"It was the boy’s decision, the boy didn’t want to stay and he only had six months left on his contract," said Moyes.
"We had an offer from Newcastle in the summer and he wanted to go then, but we chose not to in the hope that we could get him to stay but he’d made his mind up so that was the reason why."
Ashby made seven appearances for West Ham’s first-team, two of which came in this season’s Europa Conference League against Viborg and FCSB.
