‌David Morrell Patiently Awaits A Big Name Opponent To Step Up To The Plate‌

David Morrell has been kicking ass and taking names. Unfortunately, it’s not the names he wants as he feels those names are dragging their feet when his name is mentioned. However, he understands his time will come and patience is of virtue. Only 10-fights into his career, Morrell is currently the WBA super middleweight champion.

He has knocked out his last seven opponents and feels this is why many of the big names in the division are avoiding him. Confident that his moment will come sooner or later, he continues to punish whoever they put in front of him in impressive fashion. On his biggest stage, the co-main event to the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia card, Morrell made quick work of Yamaguchi Falcao, stopping him in the first round.

During a recent conversation with the undefeated Morrell, he explains why he’s the most feared fighter in the world and much more.

David, how is everything going, man?

Morrell: Everything is going great. I just got back to training camp and my next fight will be announced soon. I’m feeling great and I’m hungry.

Obviously, you weren’t impressed with Edgar Berlanga’s recent performance. What is it about Berlanga that makes you feel you could knock him out in one round?

Morrell: He is there to be hit. If we ever step in the ring and I catch him with a clean shot, he’s going to sleep. I just feel he’s nowhere on my level.

It appears Berlanga may be in line for a May fight against Canelo. Do you have any interest in that fight?

Morrell: I’m always looking to fight the best fighters in the world. Canelo is the top dog right now so yes; I want to fight him. Regarding them fighting each other, yeah, I’ll be watching.

Any thoughts on another name being mentioned in the same sentence with Canelo, Jaime Munguia?

Morrell: Munguia has a great record, and he comes to fight, but he as well is not on my level as well. He will be put to sleep too if we ever fight.

You have called out all the big names in the super middleweight division. What is it about David Morrell that you feel makes these guys reluctant to face you?

Morrell: Number one, I pose a lot of problems for everyone. God has blessed me with a lot of speed and power, not to mention a high ring IQ. My height and reach, everything will be problematic for these guys.

Do you feel you are the most feared boxer in the world and if so, why?

Morrell: No doubt about it. All the boxing insiders know I have the skills to beat anyone. With all the big names ducking me, for sure I’m the most feared fighter in the world.

It seems at some point you will get your big break. How do you stay mentally and physically ready despite not getting the fights you want when you want them?

Morrell: I come from humble beginning, so I enjoy life here in the USA, no matter what. My time will come, and the world will know my name sooner than later. I’m just going to keep fighting whoever they put in front of me and keep training hard regardless of the opponent.

In just 10 pro fights, you have already faced three undefeated opponents and two 1-loss opponents. It shows your willingness to face top opposition. That being said, is patience the key for you right now, or do you feel you have to continue to call guys out and force the issue?

Morrell: Like I said, I’m grateful to be here living my dream. If I keep winning, the big fights will come. Patience is the key to staying grounded, and if the big fight evades me, then the world will know why.

You have consistently averaged two fights a year. Can we expect to see you two times this year, or would you like to fight even more than that this year?

Morrell: Yes, I want to fight at least two times this year, but hope to get in there three times. I want to stay busy.

You have knocked out your last seven opponents, in a perfect world, who would be victim number eight?

Morrell: Benavidez or Canelo. I’m coming for their heads.

Wishing you the best of luck this year. I can’t wait to see you back in there. Is there anything else you would like to add before I let you go?

Morrell: I just want to thank you for the support, Percy. And to all my fans out there, I’m trying to make the best fights possible for you guys. Just be patient, my time will come.  I love everyone.  Thank you.
