An already thin running back corps for the Detroit Lions took a major hit in the second quarter of Sunday’s game in Tampa Bay. David Montgomery left the game and headed to the locker room with a rib injury.
Montgomery was tackled hard on a nice reception and run, landing directly and awkwardly on the ball. He laid on the turf for a couple of minutes and exited with help from trainers, appearing to be laboring to catch his breath.
He eschewed the cart that came for him, instead walking slowly to the locker room on his own. The Lions initially listed him as questionable to return.
With Jahmyr Gibbs out and Zonovan Knight placed on I.R. on Saturday, the Lions are left with Craig Reynolds and practice squad call-up Devine Ozigbo at RB.
