David Martindale has fired back at Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin over comments made about the pitch at the Tony Macaroni Arena earlier this week.
Livingston are renowned for their artificial pitch, being one of just two Scottish Premiership sides to boast one alongside Kilmarnock. They have divided opinion since implementation, but especially for visiting teams, can provide real injury threats and of course a change in playing style. Goodwin has been the latest to criticise the pitches, with the Irishman stating that he "knew Davie Martindale and the guys at Kilmarnock won’t be happy with me saying I don’t enjoy the astroturf."
But Martindale's, whose Livingston side face Aberdeen tonight (Tuesday), has hit back at the former St Mirren boss by saying that if Goodwin was in his position, he'd be "at his chief executive" for a hybrid pitch himself - whilst also not complaining when they have to change up from synthetic to grass pitches.
He said: "I think most modern day footballers - probably say around 26 or 27 [years of age] - would have probably grown up in a youth system playing in synthetic parks, so I don't really buy into that to be honest.
"If I could have a hybrid surface I'f have one, 100 per cent I would, but that's what we've got so we have to deal with it, we don't kick up to much of a complaint when we have to play on an actual grass park when we're used to playing and training on synthetic surfaces, so I don't really buy into that to be honest.
"If we had an owner with deep pockets or a fanbase with 15,000 season ticket holders we'd probably be charting on the chief executive's door for a hybrid park, but I've not got it so I don't look into it too much."
