The Biden campaign is enlisting the support of David Letterman to headline a fundraiser on July 29 as President Biden returns to the campaign trail. The event, set to take place at the house of a Biden family friend on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, will also feature Hawaii Gov. Josh Green rallying donors alongside the former 'Late Night' host.
President Biden and first lady Jill Biden are expected to attend the fundraiser, which is part of a series of fundraising efforts the president plans to undertake in the final days of July leading up to his anticipated certification by the DNC. Reports indicate that Biden has scheduled a total of 10 fundraisers over the last 10 days of the month.
Gov. Green expressed confidence in President Biden's commitment to the race, suggesting that Biden is likely to continue unless he deems the campaign unwinnable or receives advice from his inner circle to reconsider. Green also mentioned that should Biden decide to step down, Vice-President Kamala Harris would be a probable successor.
Reflecting on the possibility of Biden withdrawing from the race, Green stated, 'If the president felt that he wasn’t up to it and truly not up to it, he would step down.' This sentiment underscores the uncertainty surrounding the future of the presidential race and the potential succession plan within the Democratic Party.
