Donny van de Beek will no doubt be enjoying life back at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, although David de Gea is clearly in no mood to let the midfielder have everything his own way in training.
The pair were among the first players to return to training at United earlier this week, with Ten Hag beginning his reign in charge of the club. Those not involved in the recent round of international fixtures were back at Carrington on Monday.
The return to training gave Ten Hag his first up-close look at his new group of players, although there was one familiar face among the crowd. Van de Beek played under his fellow Dutchman during their time together at Ajax and will have been delighted to see the 52-year-old taking over at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek has returned to United following his loan spell at Everton during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign. Things didn’t quite go to plan for the midfielder at Goodison Park, having struggled through injury during the Toffees’ battle against relegation.
The 25-year-old will be aiming to catch the eye of Ten Hag back at Carrington as he looks to kickstart his United career. However, he found an obstacle in his way this week in the shape of De Gea.
The goalkeeper shared a clip from training of himself denying his teammate not once but twice in quick succession. De Gea rubbed salt into Van de Beek’s wounds by captioning the video “not today” along with a stop sign.
Van de Beek will hope for better luck in front of goal as the summer goes on. And no doubt he’d prefer to not come up against De Gea again as he aims to impress.
