David De Gea was celebrating a point against Newcastle United last night after admitting merely ending the Magpies' goal rush had given him "massive" satisfaction.
Newcastle created some good openings at Old Trafford and on another day could have been enjoying a superb away victory. But it seemed like Man United were the happier of the two teams in many respects - not least defensively.
Spain international De Gea was ecstatic to keep a clean sheet after 10 goals from Newcastle in the last three matches.
De Gea said afterwards: "I think it’s massive, Newcastle have been playing really good football, scoring goals, so to keep a clean sheet today is big for us.
"If you cannot win the game then keep a clean sheet and at least we have one point, but I think if we want to finish in the top places in the table we have to win those games."
De Gea was left thanking the woodwork twice in the first half after Joelinto rattled the bar then the post. The Spain international said afterwards he'd told Joelinton he thought he'd scored at the second attempt.
De Gea, talking to MUTV, reflected: "That was crazy, as soon as I saw the first hit the bar and the ball going to him again I said ‘it must be a goal’ and then it hits the post.
"This is football, sometimes the ball likes to come in sometimes not and I think we deserved a bit more than them. We created more bigger chances than them and the team gave totally everything."
