David de Gea announces he wants to finish his career at Manchester United

David de Gea says he wants to finish his career at Manchester United because of his unique bond with the club.

De Gea, who has made 487 appearances for United, has one year left on his current deal, with an option for an additional season. United are likely to open talks with De Gea in the coming months about an extension to his £375,000-a-week contract, with the 31-year-old keen to stay beyond his current deal.

Asked if he would like to see out his career at United, De Gea, who joined in 2011, said: "Yeah, if it's possible, of course. If they let me stay here, I will stay here, for sure. I'm really comfortable, really happy and hopefully, before I leave, we can win something.

"I haven't talked with anyone yet but, of course, I would be really happy to be here for as long as they want me, because I want to be here for more years. Of course, we want to push forward, we want to improve. But there are many teams at a very good level.

“They play very good football and this is the beginning for us, so I hope we start properly, build something big and let's see if we can win something. Winning or not winning, just being in this club means more than winning trophies.

“But, of course, we want to win, we always want to win, but representing this club is bigger than any trophy. Manchester is my home. It's a privilege, an honour, to be here and it's one of the best things in my life, to be a part of this club."

One player whose United future is much rockier is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese striker has not travelled with the squad on their pre-season tour due to family reasons. He has also made it clear that he would like to leave Old Trafford.

Asked when Ronaldo was returning and how concerned he was at his lack of pre-season, Ten Hag said: “No, it's the same as last week.”

Ten Hag was asked if he was concerned at Ronaldo's lack of fitness and availability for the start of the season, the longer he is absent from pre-season. “Of course,” said ten Hag. “But concerned is maybe not the right word. I focus on the players who are there, they are doing really well, they are in good shape. I prefer to focus on that and develop that. I cannot wait for him to come in, then we will integrate him.”
