David Clifford praised for 'modest' interview after 'insane' piece of skill

David Clifford has been praised for his modest and classy interview with GAAGO after Kerry's stunning All-Ireland quarter-final won over Tyrone at Croke Park on Saturday.

After a quiet first-half, the Fossa clubman burst into life in a virtuoso second period, the highlight of which was a stunning pass that set the wheels in motion for Kerry's second goal.

Collecting the ball on the sideline with three Tyrone defenders closing in, Clifford caught the ball, turned and played a beautiful pass to Tony Brosnan all in one movement. The pass split the Tyrone defence, Brosnan slipped in Sean O'Shea who coolly slotted past Niall Morgan to end the game as a contest.

After the game, Clifford joined Marc O'Sé, Paddy Andrews and Michael Murphy of GAAGO to chat about the Kerry performance. Naturally, the pass was brought up and Clifford talked the panel through the incredible piece of skill.

"I don't know, I didn't have a great day with the kicking, so it was nice for something to come off. I had a fair idea" (that Brosnan was free), said Clifford.

"Go on you're too modest," said host Gráinne McElwain, while Michael Murphy said "That's just an average day for you is it?"

His comments post game, along with the ridiculous bit of skill, have earned huge praise on social media.

"When your David Clifford insane bits of skill tends to come off quite regularly no matter what the score is," said one Twitter user.

"Genuine question, is David Clifford human? To see this pass is one thing but to pull it off just goes to show the player that he is. Eyes on the back of his head. He's shooting was poor yesterday but he can still do things like this. It's mad to think he's only 24 years old," said another.

"Unreal bit of skill and vision from David Clifford. Poetry in motion. Watching it in real time does not do it justice," said another.

While another said, "This is just incredible skill by David Clifford-different stratosphere to the rest."
