DAVID Clifford has been named Kerry skipper for 2023.
It’s the second time the current Footballer of the Year has been handed the captain’s armband.
The news was confirmed at last night’s annual Kerry GAA Convention.
Clifford helped East Kerry to this year’s Kerry Championship and was nominated by the East Kerry Board as Jack O’Connor’s skipper for next season.
Clifford’s older brother Paudie was another possible candidate, as were the likes of fellow East Kerry player Paul Murphy, a former Kingdom skipper.
The Fossa three-time All Star was Kerry captain for the 2020 Covid-hit winter championship when they suffered a to shock Munster semi-final defeat by Cork.
Clifford (23) takes over from Austin Stacks midfield man Joe O’Connor, who lifted the Sam Maguire alongside Sean O’Shea this year.
