David Bowie would have loved being immortalised in a hologram performance like ABBA, his former drummer revealed yesterday.
Woody Woodmansey said the star was so far ahead of his time on technology he probably would have beaten the Swedish group to the idea if he were still alive.
He added: “There are so many technological discoveries and advancements that if Bowie was around, he would have been on it. He would have already done it. When we sign contracts with Bowie’s estate it covers everything future wise.
“He was always thinking of the future. In the early days, when we talked about what we wanted to do, we always had eyes on the future. He was a genius.”
Woodmansey, 72, who was a founder member of the Spiders from Mars with Bowie, Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder, spoke after unveiling a stone dedicated to the singer on the Music Walk of Fame in Camden, North London.
Stars including The Who, Amy Winehouse, Madness and Soul II Soul are also honoured there.
ABBA earned global five-star reviews for their spectacular London stage show Voyage featuring “ABBA-tars” of their former selves.
It uses technology created by George Lucas’ Star Wars special effects firm.
Others are said to be taking a close look as to how Voyage does financially, with some believing it has the potential to transform touring.
Bowie, who died in January 2016 aged 69, sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide.
It made him one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with 11 UK number one albums.
