Former soccer star David Beckham is set to be a featured speaker at the Royal Television Society's (RTS) London Convention this year. Scheduled for September 17, Beckham will engage in a conversation with Jane Featherstone, co-founder and chief creative officer of content company Sister. The renowned ex-sportsman, who is famously married to Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, gained significant attention with his Beckham documentary series on Netflix last year. The series garnered an impressive 3.8 million viewers within just four days of its release in October.
Joining Beckham and Featherstone at the one-day event will be a lineup of esteemed industry leaders. Among the newly announced speakers are Rachel Corp, CEO of ITN, Dame Melanie Dawes, chief executive of U.K. media regulator Ofcom, Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and chief content officer, and Lisa Nandy, Britain's culture secretary.
The 2024 convention, titled 'The Next Episode: Keeping Our Creative Edge,' will be overseen by Netflix's Anna Mallett, vice president of production in EMEA/U.K., with Netflix serving as the principal sponsor. The event will kick off with an opening address by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. Additional speakers on the roster include Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon, journalist and host Amol Rajan, former quiz show co-host Richard Osman – also known for his best-selling crime novel 'The Thursday Murder Club' – and The Guardian columnist Marina Hyde.
