David Baddiel has hit out at Matt Le Tissier after he made controversial claims about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The former Southampton star has been known for voicing his opinions - no matter how divisive. He has weighed in on the news coming out of the Ukrainian city Bucha. Russia have mounted a military invasion on their neighbouring country with the death toll rising.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's claim that footage of bodies in Bucha was "staged" as the troops had withdrawn. Satellite images contradict those claims as Ukraine wrestle back control of the city. Le Tissier has shared a tweet which has hit out at the media's reporting of the incident as well as historic events.
He quote tweeted a post that read: "The media lied about Weapons of Mass Destruction, the media lied about Covid, the media lied about the Hunter Biden laptop, but honestly they are telling the truth about Bucha." Baddiel has hit back at Le Tissier, stating: "I'm starting to wonder if Terry Venables was right."
Venables was in charge of England during Euro 96 and spent two years leading the Three Lions. He consistently overlooked Le Tissier, who only won eight caps for his country. Instead Venables chose to pick the likes of Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham whilst Paul Gascoigne was his playmaker.
The former England boss has come out in the years since and in fact apologised to the former Southampton man, claiming he should've picked him far more. He said: "I want to make an apology because Le Tissier was a fantastic player and now I'm older and wiser I've realised I should probably of picked him a lot more for England.
"Le Tiss has been a real credit to the game, there's no doubt about that, he was a wonderful player, who mastered the ball, he was brilliant for the game and everyone in the game loves him. I'm not just probably sure, I'm definitely sure I should have picked him."
Le Tissier has also revealed that France made moves to enquire about his eligibility during the 1990s when Michel Platini was in charge - only to inform them it wasn't possible. He said: "I think they looked at my surname and thought 'he must be one of us'. What he didn't realise was that I wasn't eligible to play for France because I had no grandparents who were French or anything.
