Dave Grohl underwent '70 weeks of therapy' after lovechild scandal

Dave Grohl has been in therapy for more than 70 weeks

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl underwent "70 weeks of therapy" after confessing he had fathered a child outside of his marriage.

The 55-year-old musician hit headlines in 2024 when he revealed he'd been unfaithful to his wife Jordyn Blum - the mother of three of his children - and Dave has now shared he's been having almost daily therapy sessions after a tumultuous period in his life which also included the death of his Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins in 2022 and his mother Virginia.

He told the Guardian newspaper: "I’ve been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks. I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions."

When asked if the lovechild revelation led him to therapy, Dave said: "There were so many things that led me to this therapy."

The rocker went on to add that the scandal prompted him to "re-evaluate" himself.

Dave explained: "I have to be perfectly honest. Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough.

"As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem.

"But I think that for many reasons, I wound up in a place that I needed to stop and sit with myself and re-evaluate myself. It’s an ongoing process."

The Everlong star also revealed he stepped away from social media in the aftermath of his bombshell statement - in which he vowed to be a good dad to his new baby girl and earn his family's forgiveness - and he's learning not to worry too much about what others think of him.

He said: "I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think. Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius.

"Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself."

In the Guardian interview, Dave's Foo Fighters bandmates also spoke out about how the revelation affected the group - as the went on to cancel a planned tour - with bassist Nate Mendel revealing the frontman is now much more focused on "life outside of music".

Guitarist Pat Smear added: "We just all wanted to run and give him a big hug [and] let him know, both of them [Dave and Jordyn] that we are here."

Fellow guitarist Chris Shiflett went on to add that he ended up being grateful for the cancelled tour because he lost his home in the California wildfires which struck in January 2025 and he needed the time off to deal with the repercussions.

He said: "When Dave called me that morning. I just thought: take all the time you need. And then my house burned down a few months after that. So having an extensive break wound up being necessary for me."
