Dave Chappelle claims friends ‘broke gunman attacker’s arm’ after incident

Dave Chappelle claims that his friends broke his attacker’s arm after the comedian was targeted on stage.

Shortly after Chappelle was attacked by a man with a replica gun, the 48-year-old comedian provided more details about how his friends helped him during the incident.

In a recording obtained by TMZ, Chappelle told guests at Pendry Hotel in WeHo that he “felt good” before adding that his friends “broke his arm”.

“I felt good, my friends broke his arm. I felt good, how bad does a n***** have to be that Jon Stewart would stomp him!” Chappelle said in the recording filmed hours after the attack took place.

Later in the recording, Chappelle tells the cheering audience that he was ‘proud’ of his friends, before adding: “Killing that n**** would have been stupid.”

A representative for Chappelle has been approached by the Evening Standard for comment.

Chappelle was left shaken earlier this week after 23-year-old Isaiah Lee came onto the stage at the Hollywood Bowl wielding a replica gun.

In footage of the incident, the attacker appears to set upon the comedian before being tackled by security. Los Angeles Police Department said Lee has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Chappelle was unharmed. After receiving some help to calm the crowd from Chris Rock and Jamie Foxx, Chappelle continued on with this show.

The comedian’s agent has also addressed the incident: “The performances by Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl were epic and record-breaking and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment,”

Elsewhere in the statement, his representative Carla Sims added: “As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle went on with the show. Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humour before Chappelle introduced the last and featured musical guests for the evening, hip-hop artists yasiin bey and Talib Kweli, a.k.a. Black Star, who performed music from their new album – the first in nearly 24 years – which was released on Luminary.”

LAPD has since released an image of the weapon that was used by Chappelle’s attacker. The image shows a blade attached to the barrel of the replica handgun.
