AHMEDABAD: A 56-year-old scheduled caste (SC) man from the Madhavpura area of the city was stabbed to death late on Thursday night by a 29-year-old man, as he had admonished the killer for stalking his daughter.
According to officers of Madhavpura police, Vaibhav Thakor, a resident of Madhavpura and a daily wager, had been stalking the victim’s 26-year-old daughter for about six months.
The officer said Vaibhav used to follow her whenever she went to work or even to relative’s homes. He would make obscene gestures at her and she had told her family of the harassment. Even though members of the family warned Vaibhav, he continued to harass her.
On Thursday, Vaibhav again made lewd comments and obscene gestures at the woman and she told her parents about it. Her father, also a daily wage labourer, raised the issue with Vaibhav and his family.
Vaibhav and his family members began fighting with the woman’s family and abusing them. Vaibhav and his family members also subjected them to caste-based abuses.
When the woman’s family objected to the abusive words, Vaibhav began brandishing a knife at the woman’s father and threatened to kill him. When the woman’s father told him to put the knife away, he rushed at him and stabbed him multiple times.
Vaibhav’s elder brother, Bharat Thakor, held the woman’s father and Vaibhav repeatedly stabbed him in his stomach till he collapsed.
The duo then fled and the woman’s father was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The woman later filed a complaint for murder and sexual harassment along with charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Vaibhav and Bharat Thakor.
