Date and ticket information announced for Ruth Wilson in The Second Woman

Tickets for the epic 24-hour performance The Second Woman, featuring Ruth Wilson, a Golden Globe and Olivier awardwinner, will soon be available from The Young Vic Theatre and LIFT.

The Second Woman is a singular cinematic theatre experience where the stage offers the audience a wide-angle perspective of the action while many cameras capture and share live close-ups of unscripted action featuring many actors, whether you decide to remain for 24 minutes or the entire 24 hours.

Wilson, who has starred in The Affair and Luther, as well as onstage in Hedda Gabler, said: “I have a feeling that The Second Woman will challenge all norms of what it means to be actor and audience, to be performer and observer. I’m interested in what happens in that space between us all; if we form a bond as we watch and anticipate the next play partner. This is a one-off, 24-hour experience of pure, spontaneous interaction. It will never happen again.”

When will tickets go on sale?

Tickets will go on priority sale on March 2, and on general sale on March 6, at noon both days.

They will be available for the full 24 hours, for allocated time slots and on-the-door from 4pm, with full details available here.

Advance Timed Tickets

This will be your only way to guarantee access to the full 24-hour experience, with tickets priced £55 each (£35 concession).

Alternatively, you can book in advance for one of the following time slots: 9.30pm, noon, 2am, 4am, 6am, 8am, or 10am, and stay as long as you like from that point onwards. These tickets are £35 each (£25 concessions).

On-The-Door Tickets

Turn up at any point throughout the performance, join the general queue, and gain entry to the show on a first-come, first-served basis as space becomes available.

These are priced at £20 for peak showings (4pm – 10pm, Friday, May 19, and 10am – 4pm, Saturday, May 20), and £15 off-peak (10pm, Friday, May 19 – 10am, Saturday, May 20).

When will The Second Woman take place?

The Second Woman will premiere at the Young Vic and commence on Friday, May 19, at 4pm, and conclude on Saturday, May 20, at 4pm.

What is The Second Woman about?

Over a full 24 hours, 100 different men are invited to star opposite Ruth Wilson, as she performs over and over a scene between a man and a woman in a relationship that has lost its creativity and romance.

None of the 100 distinct Martys have ever met or practised with Wilson's Virginia, and the majority of them are non-actors in this epic endurance performance, which was inspired by John Cassavetes’ film Opening Night.

The project is directed by Anna Breckon and Nat Randall.
