Horrifying dashcam footage has captured the terrifying moment a lorry was blown over on a motorway.
The footage caught the HGV tipping over and crashing on the M62 on Tuesday, April 11. The clip shows the vehicle plummeting to the ground and sliding across all three lanes before hitting the central reservation at 7.17pm near Rochdale.
It has been confirmed the lorry had been blown over in strong winds. One 'minor injury' was reported by Manchester Evening News during the incident.
On Twitter, National Highways North West announced that two lanes were closed on the westbound carriageway between J22 and J21 after the collision with traffic officers called out to the scene.
They wrote: "Lanes 2 and 3 of (3) are closed on the #M62 westbound between J22 (#Huddersfield) and J21 (#Rochdale) due to a collision involving an overturned HGV. #TrafficOfficers are on scene, with recovery agents and contractors en route. Please take extra care due to the weather conditions."
In an update posted at around 12am this morning, they said: "UPDATE: All lanes have reopened on the #M62 westbound between J22 (#Huddersfield) and J21 (#Rochdale) following the earlier collision involving an overturned HGV. Residual delays have cleared and traffic is flowing freely. Thanks for your patience this evening."
There was chaos elsewhere on the M62 on Tuesday, after two other lorries became involved in a major collision near J12 (M60/M602) and Birchwood, causing a huge diesel spill and the motorway to be completely closed overnight. Those involved in the earlier crash sustained minor injuries in the incident, with one casualty rushed to hospital from the scene by paramedics.
There were delays of over 90 minutes after the crash as traffic police and paramedics worked at the scene.
