Darwin Nunez urged to snub Manchester United for Liverpool transfer: ‘He can become world-class under Klopp’

Darwin Nunez has been urged to snub Manchester United in favour of a move to rivals Liverpool.

The Uruguayan striker is being coveted by a host of Europe’s top clubs this summer after a fine season at Benfica, where he notched 34 goals across all competitions.

United - along with the likes of Tottenham and Real Madrid, among many others - have been heavily linked with Nunez, who was a top target for West Ham during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

New manager Erik ten Hag is undertaking a thorough squad overhaul during his first summer at Old Trafford, with talks underway as part of attempts to sign Dutch duo Jurrien Timber and Frenkie de Jong, and the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all departing, along with Nunez’s compatriot Edinson Cavani.

Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp is also likely to be pursuing new forward targets this summer, with Sadio Mane agitating for a move to Bayern Munich and Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino also entering the final year of their respective contracts.

Nunez - who could be available for a fee of around £68million - would be quite a signing to pair with the impactful Luis Diaz, who has shone since completing a £37m switch from FC Porto in January, with former Reds defender Jose Enrique hoping his old club can steal a march on fierce rivals United in the transfer market.

Writing on Instagram next to a report detailing United’s interest in Nunez, Enrique said: “I hope this is not true and he come to us instead.

“Top player that can become world-class under Klopp if we sell Sadio Mane.”
