Darwin Nunez starts as Liverpool get injury boost on bench for Ajax

Darwin Nunez returns to Liverpool's starting lineup as they are hosted by Ajax in the Champions League.

The £64m striker missed Saturday's dismal defeat at Nottingham Forest after picking up an injury in the 1-0 win over West Ham seven days ago but is leading the line at the Johan Cruyff ArenA as Jurgen Klopp's men look to secure a place in the knockout stages in Amsterdam.

Nunez has scored on his last three starts and is up top alongside Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah this evening.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson patrol the midfield in the absence of Thiago Alcantara, whose problems with an ear infection go on, while Ibrahima Konate is restored to the substitutes' bench only after returning to training on Monday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is named at right-back after being rested for the loss at Forest as he is selected in a back four alongside Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson at left-back.

Calvin Ramsay is part of a youthful bench that also includes Curtis Jones, Stefan Bajcetic and Fabio Carvalho.

Liverpool : Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Elliott; Nunez.

Subs: Kelleher, Adrian, Konate, Milner, Jones, Tsimikas, Ramsay, Carvalho, Bajcetic, Phillips.
