It’s fair to say that so far, Darwin Nunez has firmly lived up to his high expectations at Liverpool.
After a steady start in pre-season, he set the tone quickly in his first competitive appearance for the Reds when they took on Manchester City in the Community Shield. Nunez came on from the bench, won a penalty and then scored Liverpool’s third in the 3-1 win. He did pretty much the same a week later, scoring Liverpool’s first goal and assisting their second in the 2-2 draw at Fulham.
It’s now becoming apparent, if it wasn’t already, that Nunez provides Jurgen Klopp with something completely different to what he’s had previously. The German boss has previously fluctuated between Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota as his number nine.
