Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate set to return as three Liverpool players ruled out for Wolves

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez could both be back for Liverpool against Wolves on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman hasn’t injured since suffering a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup last month, but returned to team training last week. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan sat out the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace because of the shoulder injury he suffered away at Newcastle United the weekend before.

And while Klopp stopped short of confirming both will be involved against Wolves, he revealed both had trained as normal ahead of Wednesday night’s game.

“Ibou trained yesterday completely normal, and Darwin as well,” the German told reporters today. “Now we have to see how he (reacts), especially I think for Ibou.

“He’s had no issues since he was injured, we just wanted to give him more training time before we include him again. It should now be fine.

“Darwin, we have to see. It’s the shoulder. It looked absolutely okay yesterday but I don’t know before some people tell me how he reacted to yesterday.”

While the pair are set to return, Klopp confirmed Liverpool remain without Thiago Alcantara, Joe Gomez, and Luis Diaz. There was at least some positive news on the Colombian, however, as the German offered an update on his individual rehabilitation.

“Let’s start with the not so positive. Thiago not (available). He’s in rehab,” he said. “Joe Gomez is out with a muscle problem.

“Luis, I watched half-hour of his rehab session out on the pitch. Individually, shooting, moving. It all looks really good. But he was not in team training yet, so that’s probably the decisive information.”

Meanwhile, Klopp also shared his delight at Diogo Jota’s recent return from injury after the Portuguese was handed his first start since suffering a calf injury last October when Liverpool travelled to Crystal Palace.

And while the Reds boss admitted it will take time for the forward to get back to his best after such a lengthy lay-off, he confirmed that Jota will be involved against his former club, Wolves.

“Very (important to have him back). It’s massive, it’s massive of course,” Klopp said. “Diogo is an exceptional player. He needs to get rhythm now.

“I think it (starting) helped him a lot. Yes, he was tired after the game. It’s clear. We have to see how he reacted and today we have to make these decisions, who can start or who should start. But he will definitely be involved again, if nothing happens.

“A top class player, it’s great. He’s versatile. He can play on the left-wing, can play in the centre, and on the right-wing as well. It’s really helpful for this busy period we are having.”
