A 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Timor-Leste on Friday afternoon has been felt across the Northern Territory.
The earthquake occurred at 12:06pm ACST at a depth of 65 kilometres, according to Geoscience Australia.
There are currently no reports of damage in Timor-Leste, however there were reports of significant ground shaking.
The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed there is no tsunami threat for either Timor-Leste or Australia.
Timor-Leste is about 700 kilometres north-west of Darwin.
The earthquake was felt extensively throughout the Top End, with accounts of rattling apartment buildings in the city and shaking across Darwin's northern suburbs.
Geoscience Australia also said people had reported feeling the earthquake as far away as Katherine, 320 kilometres south of Darwin, and in Karratha in Western Australia.
Trevor Allen, a senior seismologist with Geoscience Australia, said earthquakes were common in the region, however this one was relatively small.
"In general, we would expect to see an earthquake of this magnitude or potentially even larger roughly every year in that region," he told the NT Country Hour.
