A number of the Los Angeles Lakers’ starters and key players have looked very good during the 2023-24 preseason, but perhaps the most impressive of the bunch has been Anthony Davis.
The superstar big man is looking motivated and aggressive, and he is producing offensively while grabbing numerous rebounds and patrolling the defensive end of the floor. In Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting while adding seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
Davis has been shooting a high percentage from 3-point range, which led Lakers head coach Darvin Ham to say he wants the big man shooting six 3-pointers a game. That sounds like a steep number for a man who has made 23.8% of such attempts over the last three seasons.
Ham seemed to walk back his exact request when he said he merely wants Davis to be aggressive all over the court, including from downtown.
Don’t read too much into the actual number with regards to Darvin Ham encouraging Davis to take 6 triples a night. It’s more about a mindset to look for his shot: “I just want him to be aggressive at all three levels.”
