It had been 26 years since anyone last heard the roar of water cascading down the Dartmouth Dam spillway in north-east Victoria.
The past week's spill was the fifth since the storage was completed in 1979 and the first since November 1996.
The rare event brought thousands of tourists to the Mitta Valley to see the spillway and local businesses were enjoying the boom after the pandemic.
