Scotland hero Darren Fletcher could be stuck between a rock and a hard place in the not-so-distant future - with the former Manchester United midfielder's son Tyler being called up to England's under-16 team.
Fletcher, born in Dalkeith, was a Tartan Army hero after making 80 appearances for his country during a successful playing career which saw him sweep five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Champions League title at Old Trafford.
Of course, he failed to play in a major tournament for Scotland who qualified for the big stage for the first time in 22 years at Euro 2020; though with his sons Tyler and Jack excelling at youth level, they could continue to carry the baton. However, dreams of a Scotland pairing may be fading with Tyler being called-up to England's squad - potentially facing his twin.
The Manchester City midfield starlet has been named in England's under-16 camp that has flown to Spain this week. Having previously played in the Scotland ranks, he is eligible to switch allegiances as he and Jack were born in Manchester whilst Darren was plying his trade at Old Trafford.
Both midfielders earned call-ups to Scotland set-up in August after their superb development at Manchester City. Though with the switch, Jack - also a midfielder - could now bizarrely face off in the centre of the park against his twin if an Auld Enemy clash is arranged. Players can delay on their allegiances until a competitive debut for the senior team, giving the duo a few years yet to choose their nation.
