Negril Incorporated and its owners have agreed to pay $1,817,910.60 to resolve allegations that the company billed Virginia Medicaid for mental health services delivered by another company that was not credentialed or enrolled as a Medicaid provider, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Virginia. The settlement was announced Oct. 19, and local station WDBJ7 identified Negril as a Danville health care company. The office said the claims are "allegations only; there has been no admission of wrongdoing and no determination of liability."
The case centers on mental health skill-building services, a Virginia Medicaid benefit that helps people with serious mental illness build the skills to live stably and independently in the community. For patients and families, credentialing is the check that confirms the people delivering that care meet state standards. The federal release did not allege that any patient was harmed.
