Danny Rose has joked about a return to Newcastle United after cheekily asking Eddie Howe whether the Magpies need a third-choice left back. The former England international is currently a free agent since leaving Watford in September, and clearly the latest visit to St James' Park made the 32-year-old keen for an unlikely second stint in a black-and-white shirt.
Rose spent half a season on loan with the Magpies in January 2020, and went on to make 13 appearances as Steve Bruce's side avoided relegation in Project Restart. The veteran full-back was released by Tottenham a year later, and failed to rediscover his best form in a brief spell at Vicarage Road.
Rose was on punditry duties for Sky Sports ahead of Sunday's encounter with Tottenham alongside Kieron Dyer and Jamie Redknapp, and the panel spoke with Howe ahead of kick-off. Newcastle have been transformed from perennial relegation contenders to unlikely top-four contenders in the intervening years, and Rose could not resist the opportunity to ask the head coach for a place in his squad.

The left back asked 'do you need a third-choice left back by any chance', which Howe met with a similar tone by responding 'certainly have you in mind Danny'. Newcastle can move six points clear of Tottenham with victory over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
