Danny Murphy believes Liverpool should forget about signing Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
Various reports in recent weeks have suggested the Reds are considering an approach for the Brazilian. Since signing for the Magpies last January, Guimaraes has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders and as a Tyneside cult hero.
The 25-year-old starred in Newcastle’s emphatic 4-1 win over Everton in midweek, setting up Callum Wilson for his 20-yard stunner to make it 3-0. A composed, deep-lying midfielder, Guimaraes also boasts a high-pressing, heavy-metal game suited for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.

Liverpool are in the hunt for midfield reinforcements, with talk cooling about a potential move for England sensation Jude Bellingham. However, given the Magpies’ new-found wealth and top-flight resurgence, it would take an astronomical fee to lure him from St James’ Park.
Newcastle are also looking increasingly likely to secure Champions League football next year - with their win at Goodison Park giving them an eight-point cushion over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. As it stands, it will take a herculean effort for Liverpool - sitting seven points outside the top four - to book their place in UEFA’s elite competition.
Former Reds midfielder Murphy insisted Guimaraes’ God-like status at Newcastle means Liverpool have “no chance” of luring him to Merseyside. He told talkSPORT: “(He is a) super player. He has got that lovely balance of creativity, passing and skill with an appetite to work back, defend and spot danger.
“When you’ve got that balance, and you’re good at both, you become an elite footballer. He is a God up there - and he won’t be going anywhere. No chance.”
