Danny Murphy delivers West Ham striker verdict amid Premier League relegation struggles point

Danny Murphy believes keeping Danny Ings fit will be the difference for West Ham United in their relegation fight.

Ings joined the Hammers during the January transfer window and scored his first two goals for the club in the 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Declan Rice and Michail Antonio also found the net as West Ham scored four goals in the final 20 minutes of the match. The three points lifted David Moyes' side out of the relegation zone and put them two points clear of 18th place.

The 30-year-old picked up an injury in his debut against Everton which limited his minutes in the preceding three games but in his first start for the east London outfit, his brace broke the deadlock and Murphy believes his ability to finish chances in the box will be crucial to West Ham breaking clear of the bottom three.

"Well he scores nearly all his goals in the penalty box which is what West Ham need," Murphy told BBC Match of the Day. "He's tenacious, he keeps getting in there as he said.

"West Ham have only scored, up until today, ten of their 19 goals, only ten, have been in the box. So he's going to be a big addition for them if he stays fit.

"[Gianluca] Scamacca's been injured, [Michail] Antonio has not been scoring as often so he could be a big difference between them having a scrap till the end or pushing away from it but great start from him today, great start."
