Danny Miller jokingly made a dig at Stephen Mulhern when he took to the stage at the National Television Awards.
The former Emmerdale star got up on stage to collect an NTA with his I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2021 cast mates when the series won in the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Category.
He was crowned king of the castle last year so made a speech after winning as presenters Ant and Dec were unable to attend the awards show to collect the gong as they have been struck down with Covid. Earlier in the night, Stephen stepped in to collect the duo's award for Best Presenter on their behalf.
At one point during Danny's speech, he decided to make a comment at Stephen - who was sitting in the audience looking confused.
Danny said: "Just on behalf of Ant and Dec who unfortunately have Covid so they can't be here tonight, and Stephen Mulhern is in the crowd so not sure why he hasn't accepted the award on behalf of them." The shot then panned to the television presenter, who looked bewildered at being mentioned during the speech.
Viewers noticed the quick-passing moment and immediately took to Twitter to comment on Danny's 'dig'. One user posted: "Danny Miller is a smug a**! Bit of a dig at Stephen… #ntawards."
"Danny isn’t very funny is he?" another user pointed out. "What was that dig at Stephen Mulhern about? He obviously didn't come and accept the award on their behalf because he's got nothing to do with I'm a Celeb? Seems an unnecessary comment by Danny..." one confused user added.
A viewer commented: "Well Danny’s speech was ….. surprised face of Stephen Mulhern. Why would he have collected the award for Ant & Dec. #ntawards."
Some came to Danny's defence and said: "Not sure Danny was insulting Stephen...think he got his shoes mixed up ... @StephenMulhern should get one for #InForAPenny #NTAs." Meanwhile, Stephen was the one to set up to accept Ant and Dec's award when they won their 21st NTA for best presenter.
He had a piece of paper they had written their acceptance speech on. However, Stephen ended up tearing the speech up as he joked that he would be stealing the award himself.
"They gave me some words," he said. "But I'm not going to accept that drivel!" They had also been competing against Alison Hammond, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton in the category.
