Grinning Danilo has dropped a hint over where his future lies next season amid interest from Rangers.
The Brazilian opened his account for the campaign during the friendly victory over Zwolle while the 24-year-old remains on Rangers' radar following the attacking additions of Cyril Dessers and Sam Lammers so far this term. The forward was a key component of Arne Slot's side which secured Eredivisie title glory last season, however, an exit could be on the cards if Michael Beale's side hit the right asking price with the Dutch champions looking to revamp their squad for the Champions League.
Despite a planned shake up from Slot, Danilo let the line for the pre-season opener with first-choice striker Santiago Gimenez absent and he reminded his boss Slot what his capable of as they return to Europe's elite competition - and he issued a glowing report card of the squad ahead of the new campaign. During a post-match debrief with club TV the striker was all smiles - as he insisted it was "just the beginning" for the current crop of talent.
He said: "We have new players so it's different now than last year, but it's always good to have good players around. We have a good team and it's nice to play with (Javairo) Dilrosun and (Igor) Paixao.
"It's easy, we already had a good connection in the forward area. Most of the players who were in the starting line-up were there last year. It's just the beginning and we look forward to what this season will bring."
That won't be music to Rangers boss Beale's ears and could be a clue that he is putting the focus elsewhere. However, it is understood Danilo is open to a deal and the Scottish Premiership switch could be in the back of his mind.
