Thirteen years ago, Danilo Carrera embarked on his acting career, making his debut in Telemundo's telenovela 'Relaciones Peligrosas.' Now, in 2024, he returns to the network as the lead in 'Sed de Venganza,' a prime-time drama he considers the most important project of his career. "The most beautiful part," he shared in an interview with ENSTARZ ¡Latino!, "is reuniting with the same people."
Leaving Telemundo at around 20 or 21, Carrera returns as a 35-year-old with an established career. "I'm a grown man now!" he joked, recalling the warm welcome from familiar faces, some of whom he hadn't seen in over a decade. It felt like family, especially since many he began working with in 2011 on 'Relaciones Peligrosas' is now part of 'Sed de Venganza.'
Danilo Carrera's Return to Miami
Nearly two years ago, Carrera surprised everyone by announcing his career pause and departure from Mexico, where he was a prominent heartthrob in Spanish-language TV.
"When my mom got sick, being with her became my priority," he explained. He moved to Miami to support her during her cancer treatment, selling everything he owned in Mexico and leaving his career behind. "It was a leap of faith for the best reason—love." Now, he lives with his parents, spending time with them daily. Despite having someone special in his life, he treasures his moments with his parents above all. "It's been beautiful, challenging, strange, and rewarding," he shared, feeling that every moment was worth it, especially as his mother is now in remission.
A Gift From Telemundo
A gift from Telemundo arrived as a "blessing" when executives reached out without him seeking it. "When Telemundo called with an offer just seven minutes from my house, I felt it was a gift from God," he reflected, regarding this project as the most rewarding of his career.
In 'Sed de Venganza,' Carrera plays Francisco Ramírez, also known as Emilio Montenegro, a man who, after a wrongful accusation, returns a decade later seeking justice. He faces a reality where his love is engaged to someone else, his family is gone, and his only lead to the truth is a complex, stunning woman—Fernanda, played by his co-star Isabella Castillo.
The story is intense and layered with suspense, as Francisco's only clear goal is to rekindle his love with Alexa Ramírez.
Carrera hopes viewers reflect on the assumptions they make about celebrities: "I went from being Mexico's most hated to the most loved, once they learned I left everything for my mother. People don't really know the truth of your life."
Last weekend, Carrera capped off his success by hosting the Latin Billboard Awards. With everything in his life "great" at the moment, he's reserved about romance, only hinting at a Halloween costume designed for couples.
