Danilho Doekhi Rangers transfer 'blocked' as Vitesse boss makes personal intervention

Rangers and two Serie A sides had January bids for in-demand Danilho Doekhi knocked back, according to a report.

The Vitesse defender has been tracked by a number of clubs across Europe as he approaches the end of his deal in the Eredivise.

The Dutch side had put a massive £2million price tag on their captain to scare off potential bids this month, but reports in the Netherlands claim a number of clubs contract the Dutch side over a deal.

De Gelderlander claim that Rangers along with Napoli and Atalanta reached out over the prospect of a January switch.

However, they state boss Thomas Letsch stepped in and "blocked" any move telling Vitesse hierarchy he wanted to keep his captain for the remainder of the campaign.

The club are battling for a top four spot in the league, as well as in the Dutch Cup and Europa Conference League, and Letsch refused to lose the mainstay at the back.

The Premiership champions appear to still be in the running for a pre-contract deal, with Dinamo Zagreb's offer being knocked by Doekhi.

John Souttar has already agreed a pre-contract move to the club in the summer from Hearts, and late bids to land the Scotland cap in January were knocked back on deadline day.

Gio van Bronckhorst and sporting director Ross Wilson look to be preparing for life after Connor Goldson, who is out of contract in the summer.
