Danilho Doekhi 'calm' over Rangers interest as defender opens up on next step in honest Ibrox address

In-demand Danilho Doekhi insists he is "calm" over Rangers interest as he plots his next move.

The Vitesse defender has been tracked by a number of clubs across Europe as he approaches the end of his deal in the Eredivise.

The Premiership champions are among the suitors who are attempting to snap up the 23-year-old on a pre-contract deal.

The Dutchman admits he feels like the time is right to leave his current side, but was playing his cards close to his chest on where he would end up in the summer.

But the Vitesse skipper insists there was no chances he would have left his current side in the January window as he wanted to see out the the season on a high.

When asked about his next move by VoetbalZone Doekhi laughed: "It is a question that often returns.

"Football is very unpredictable. I want to take a new step, I am certainly open to that.

"I think the club would like to extend with me, but I hope they also understand that I want to take a new step after four years. I think I'm ready for that."

When pushed on interest from Rangers interest, he continued: "I have remained fairly calm about it, I know what I have in mind. I did not just want to leave Vitesse in the winter.

"Of course, if a good opportunity had come along, you can not let it go. But we play European (football, Europa Conference League), are still in the cup tournament and are doing well in the league.

"I knew I wanted to finish the season here."

Gio van Bronckhorst could be hoping to snap up his fellow countrymen and use the pre-contract market, that has already seen the club agree terms with John Souttar.

Doekhi admitted the manager was a huge factor in his final decision on his next step.

He added: "Who the trainer is, what my chances are (to play), what style of play they use."
