In exciting news for horror film enthusiasts, Danielle Deadwyler has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller, 'The Woman in the Yard.' The film is set to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for his work on 'Black Adam,' and will mark a reunion for Collet-Serra and Deadwyler after previously collaborating on the Netflix thriller, 'Carry On.'
Not only will Deadwyler be starring in the film, but she will also serve as an executive producer. This project is a significant milestone for Deadwyler, who has been gaining recognition for her outstanding performances, most notably in last year's feature film, 'Till,' which garnered her several major awards.
'The Woman in the Yard,' written by Sam Stefanak, is shrouded in mystery as the plot details have been kept tightly under wraps. However, the film is described as ambitious in scope yet modest in budget, combining Collet-Serra's unique vision with Deadwyler's undeniable talent.
Joining Deadwyler and Collet-Serra as producers are industry veterans Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain. The film is scheduled for release on January 10, 2025, and will be distributed by Universal Pictures, in line with Blumhouse's longstanding partnership with the studio.
In a related announcement, Universal also revealed a release date change for another Blumhouse project, 'M3GAN 2.0.' Originally set for January 17, 2025, the film has been pushed back to May 16, 2025.
Apart from her involvement in 'The Woman in the Yard,' Deadwyler has a busy slate of upcoming projects. She is set to star alongside John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson in the Netflix adaptation of August Wilson's 'The Piano Lesson,' directed by Denzel Washington. Additionally, she is currently featured in A24's 'I Saw the TV Glow,' which is making waves during its festival run.
Director Jaume Collet-Serra's track record is a testament to his expertise in the horror-thriller genre. Though he recently gained recognition for directing the family film 'Jungle Cruise,' which grossed $220 million worldwide, his roots lie in delivering captivating and chilling cinematic experiences such as 'The Shallows,' 'House of Wax,' and 'The Orphan.'
It is evident that 'The Woman in the Yard' brings together a talented ensemble both in front of and behind the camera. With the combination of Deadwyler's rising star power, Collet-Serra's directorial prowess, and the production expertise of Blumhouse, this film promises to be an exciting addition to the horror genre.
Fans eagerly anticipate further updates on 'The Woman in the Yard' as the production progresses. With its intriguing premise and a stellar team involved, this is undoubtedly a project to watch out for in the coming years.
