Daniel Jeremiah has the Commanders selecting a QB in his first mock draft

It’s officially draft season. On Friday, Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network released his first mock draft of the offseason. Sure, this weekend is one of the biggest of the NFL year with the divisional round of the playoffs, but for 24 teams, the focus has already moved toward 2024.

For the Washington Commanders, these are exciting times. After finishing 4-13 and losing eight straight games to end the season, Washington hired Adam Peters as the franchise’s new general manager. Peters was widely considered the top GM candidate, and the Commanders moved quickly to hire him.

Peters has his work cut out for him this offseason, but he will have help. Washington has around $80 million in salary-cap room and possesses the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Additionally, the Commanders have five picks in the first three rounds.

So, where does Jeremiah see Washington going with the No. 2 pick?

It’s a familiar pick, as Jeremiah has USC quarterback Caleb Williams going No. 1 to Chicago, followed by Maye to Washington.

It’s a new era in Washington led by general manager Adam Peters. The Commanders find their quarterback of the future in Maye.

Jeremiah did note that he has Maye and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels ranked very closely. He mocked Daniels to the Patriots at No. 3.

As for Peters, Jeremiah loves the hire for Washington.
