A 39-year-old man has admitted dousing his partner in petrol and setting fire to her in the lounge room of her home in Perth's southern suburbs.
Daniel James Boldison had been due to stand trial before a jury in the District Court next month, but today he pleaded guilty to a charge of doing grievous harm to Andrea Atkins-Greed with intent to maim or disfigure her.
On the afternoon of August 23, 2020, Boldison covered part of the lounge room of Ms Atkins-Greed's Medina home with an accelerant, before dousing her with it and setting it alight.
Ms Atkins-Greed, a mother of two, managed to run from the house.
Neighbours came to her aid and put her under a shower while they waited for emergency services to arrive.
The 26-year-old, who suffered burns to 35 per cent of her body, was rushed to hospital and spent several days in a coma.
Attempted murder charge downgraded
Boldison was originally accused of attempted murder, but the charge was later downgraded to causing grievous bodily harm.
He appeared in court today via video link from Hakea Prison and admitted to committing the crime.
Boldison also pleaded guilty to doing grievous bodily harm to a man on the same day.
Another charge of causing criminal damage was dropped.
Judge Andrew Stavrianou ordered that a psychological report be prepared on Boldison for his sentencing hearing.
He was again remanded in custody until he faces court in July when a date may be set for his sentencing.
