Dancing On Ice star Bez bags 'full-time role' on Channel 4's Hollyoaks after cameo role

Dancing On Ice's Bez could be heading to Hollyoaks as a full-time cast member, according to reports.

The Happy Mondays star was last seen careering around the ice on ITV, but was said to film scenes for the the Channel 4 show last month.

Bez is said to make his 'Oaks debut after character Tony Hutchinson books him as a guest DJ for the Dog in the Pond's club night.

The father-of-three, 57, wowed fans on Dancing On Ice when he came out in a crash helmet and padding for his 'maracas' and so it's no surprise he's said to have wowed the soap's bosses.

A soap insider told The Sun : “Hollyoaks bosses were genuinely surprised by how good Bez is on camera.

“There is belief the role could be expanded, leading to Bez becoming a regular star.

“He plays himself, but given it’s in soapland, there’s no reason why he can’t continue seemingly living his own life in the village.”

The Mirror has contacted Hollyoaks' representatives for comment.

Bez is said to be putting further talks with the soap's bosses on ice until he wraps up his time on the ITV skating show- which fans hope won't be for a while.

The star, real name Mark Berry, has been unable to train for a week after testing positive for Covid, but if his opening number was anything to go by fans will hopefully be in for another treat this weekend.

The first ever contestant to come out in a crash helmet, Bez's rendition of his band's Step On with skating partner Angela Egan was nothing short of genius.

Judges praised the star for his bravery and while he didn't bag an amazing score, Bez's sheer force of personality was enough to lift everyone's spirits.

The musician made his return to the Dancing On Ice studio last weekend after finishing his period of self-isolation.

He said: "I've been calling it hibernation because I have been sleeping all week. I feel absolutely fantastic. I was one of the lucky ones who had no symptoms whatsoever."

Should Hollyoaks make Bez an offer, he's no stranger to Channel 4, starring in Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his old bandmate Shaun Ryder.

Shaun was in the ITV audience cheering his friend on as he made his way around the ice.

Asked by hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby what his verdict was on his pal's performance, he said: "What, on this show? Not in a million years! I've seen him on ice at the bottom of his garden on his pond.

"I think he could win this."

Dancing On Ice continues on ITV on Sunday at 6.30pm
