Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has been defended by fans, after critics branded it 'unfair' that she was kept in Dancing on Ice over John Fashanu on Sunday night.
As soon as her name appeared on the confirmed line-up for the new series, Love Island winner Ekin-Su was installed as the favourite to win the new series of the ITV show, being overtaken in the odds right before her debut by Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson. That ended up being a spot on call by bookmakers as Nile ended up topping the leaderboard in week one, while Ekin-Su landed in the skate-off in a result that no-one predicted.
Ekin-Su looked gutted as soon as her fate was confirmed, glancing at pro partner Brendyn Hatfield in shock as they had to come to terms with the disappointment, She had a week to try and get over the upset and prepare for the first skate-off of the new series, waiting to see who would be her opponent.
After he finished bottom with the Dancing on Ice judges on Sunday, it was ex footballer John Fashanu who had to battle against her in the skate-off, with the judges saving Ekin-Su in a unanimous decision.

However, some viewers feel that John actually 'did more skating' than Ekin-Su and argued the judges should have voted the other way. One took to Twitter to complain: "Brendyn manages to make Ekinsu look like she's skating with his cool lifts. Reality. She can barely stand on the ice on her own. Therefore, John should have gone through.
In agreement, a second tweeted: "Wrong result, sorry. I felt that John actually managed some skating on his own, @ekinsuofficial was like a push-me pull-you no skating on her own at all."
However, others hit out at critics, claiming that Ekin-Su was far better. Defending her, one fan commented: "Not people suddenly claiming the skate off is “fixed” because Ekin Su survived. The first week skate off has been the same every year since it returned" and another reacting: "well done @ekinsuofficial just shows with the right outfit and the right choreography you were seen for your skating ability. If they’d done this last week you’d never have been in the skate off!"
