Dancing on Ice final delayed as Phillip Schofield announcement leaves viewers angry with ITV

Phillip Schofield's announcement at the end of Sunday's Dancing on Ice sparked a backlash against ITV as this year's final has been delayed.

Tensions ran high in the Dancing on Ice studio as the five remaining couples battled it out for a place in the 2022 finale, with a chance to skate to Torvill & Dean's iconic Bolero routine up for grabs.

Phillip hosted on his own this weekend, after Holly tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday morning, with viewers left questioning why she wasn't replaced in the same way Phillip was when contracted Covid.

As well as featuring solo skates from Brendan, Regan, Connor, Kye and Kimberley, Sunday's semi also saw a performance from Westlife.

Then came crunch time, when Phillip revealed that Brendan and Regan made it through on the public vote, while Kimberley was unanimously voted through to the final by the judges after the skate off.

Right before credits rolled and after it had been previously addressed earlier on in Sunday's show, Phillip confirmed that the Dancing on Ice final won't be next Sunday, March 20, but a week later on March 27.

And the reason is that ITV will air the FA Cup Quarter Final in Dancing on Ice's usual time slot next weekend.

The delay of the Dancing on Ice final comes after it was announced that both Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Starstruck will be cancelled next week as Six Nations rugby takes over ITV for more than three hours.

The Dancing on Ice announcement sparked widespread anger on Twitter, with one unimpressed fan reacting: "Why has the Dancing on Ice final been delayed by 2 weeks for because of a football match it was bad enough last week football was on 3 nights in a row."

Equally annoyed, another tweeted: "God sake, why can't you put the football on ITV2 or 3 or 4, bloody ridiculous that you have to put everything on hold for 1 game when there are plenty of other options."

A third moaned: "Such a shame football means we won’t get the final for 2 weeks."
