Dancing On Ice fans say 'it's a joke' in undermarking row as Corrie's Mollie Gallagher axed ahead of final

Viewers were stunned as they claimed that Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher was '"undermarked" after she performed an emotional skate to My Immortal by Evanescence in the semi-final of Dancing On Ice. Mollie, who plays much-loved goth Nina Lucas in the Salford-based soap, skated with her pro partner Sylvain Longchambon in honour of her emotional Corrie storyline.

In May 2021 Nina and her boyfriend Seb Franklin were attacked by a vile gang on their way home. Nina was hospitalised and Seb died after sustaining horrific injuries. Mollie won Best Serial Drama Performance after taking centre stage for the hate crime storyline in memory of goth Sophie Lancaster.

The ITV soap worked with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, set up by Sophie's mum Sylvia who passed away in April last year. Sophie and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were set upon because they were members of the goth subculture and as a consequence of the attack in Stubbylee Park, Bacup in 2007, 20-year-old Sophie died from her injuries.

Mollie said their chosen song took her back to the scenes when a grieving Nina stripped herself of her goth makeup as she tried to erase her identity following Seb's murder. And she said the skate was for everyone who feels 'they don't fit in.'

Fans were upset to see that what they thought was Mollie's finest skate receive 8.5's across the board from the judges, bringing in 34 out of 40. @sproutjoons gasped: "Oh wow... wow wow mollie i'm crying again that was absolutely stunning, took my breath away when she did that curled up bit in the lift it really struck my chest... they deserved 9s across the board."

@Bfishermufc2 fumed: "34?! Are you actually kidding me right now?!" @crystxl_h said: "Molly should’ve been scored at least a 9 across the board that was her best skate by far."

@TheRealZoeMBE complained: "For god sake, Mollie could literally skate with alligators whilst creating world peace and they would still give her a low score. That performance was beautiful. MOLLIE DESERVES BETTER."

@HausofDylan95 shouted: "AGAIN undermarking her. Deserved at least one 9!" @RyanTheSoapking wrote: "No way was that 8.5. It was a 9.0 at least." @samtheaspie thought: "Underscoring again bloody fix." And @coolcatclare75 said: "@molgallagher11_ robbed again on scores! She was so much better than 8.5."

Later Dancing On Ice watchers thought Mollie was 'robbed' as she was eliminated ahead of the final along with the Wanted singer Siva Kaneswaran, who performed an emotional tribute to his late bandmate Tom Parker. Skating through to next weekend's final are Joey Essex and Vanessa Bauer, former Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson and Olivia Smart and RuPaul's Drag Race winner The Vivienne and Colin Grafton.

@juliawaldron1 said: "How bloody predictable with results, it was obvious Mollie was never going to make it to the final, yes she is not the best dancer, but she was the only one who did the headbanger ..TWICE and still crap scoring don't anyone say they don't have favourites."

@Thomstevens11 said: "Could you imagine if Mollie had been marked fairly she would probably have skated into the final." And @kayla_louise96 fumed: "Dont think there was any need for a skate off… it was obvious from the scores alone who they would save."

@h1736362929 argued: "So your telling me the two celebrities that got talked about the most today got voted out." @Barbara94742236 tweeted: "What an absolute joke the wrong skaters went tonight that’s for sure it’s an absolute joke."

But other fans were pleased with the result. @ThomassMattie cheered: "That’s the best news ever @THEVIVIENNEUK is through to finals!!" @SHANEOfficial_ said: "I have to say though, I am absolutely over the moon that The Vivienne made it to the Final without landing in the Skate Off. I would say she is the 2nd best skater behind Nile, so the correct 2 were safe imo."

@punkdivestedbw wrote: "If Nile and Olivia doesn't win I'll fight." Donna Marie Watkins applauded: "Nile to win @dancingonice I love him he’s brilliant." And @actingtheparty said: "So glad Joey got through."
