Dancing on Ice commentator change confuses fans as Alec Crook replaces Sam Matterface

Dancing on Ice viewers were left confused on Sunday night when the ITV show had a sudden change of commentator.

For the last three years, Sam Matterface has been in the voice over booth for the popular programme, replacing Matt Chapman, but on Sunday, fans quickly realised that it wasn't him delivering the verdict on the first performance of Dance Week, after former S Club star Rachel Stevens took to the ice.

And then their suspicions were confirmed when host Holly Willoughby thanked "Alex Crook i the commentary box," before the judges gave their comments.

While the change of commentator surprised Dancing on Ice fans turning their TVs on to enjoy this week's episode, Sam actually revealed he'd be missing earlier on in the day, with his absence being down to FA Cup football commentary commitments.

Revealing Alex was stepping in, Sam wrote: "Good luck to @alex_crook who steps into the @dancingonice commentary booth tonight while I cuddle up to Ally MCoist at Anfield on @itv."

Sam posted a video of him and Alex talking about the change of personnel, with Alex promising "all the Matterface cheese with some Crook thrown in," with Sam replying: "Enjoy yourself. Don't get too comfortable."

A Dancing on Ice fan account reacted to Alex standing in for Sam by tweeting: "Welcome to the #dancingonice Family @alex_crook. We’ll miss you tonight @sammatterface."

Sam's absence was addressed by the show, prompting one fan to tweet: "No Sam Matterface tonight either? No mention though," and a second posted: "Oooh, and no @sammatterface either tonight! Must be commentating on something else, so cheers to #AlexCrook"
