LAS VEGAS – Dana White’s Contender Series 47 weigh-ins took place Monday, and MMA Junkie was on the scene to cover the proceedings.
In total, 10 fighters stepped on the scale for five bouts, and one of them missed weight – badly. That dubious distinction went to Willian Souza, who was 10 pounds (146) overweight for his scheduled bantamweight bout against Farid Basharat, who hit the 136 mark. It was the biggest weight miss in the history of the Contender Series, which previously was seven pounds by Victor Reyna in 2019.
Willian Souza was 146 pounds for his fight … at *bantamweight* 😬

Why Souza came in so heavy is unclear. As a result, the Nevada Athletic Commission canceled the bout.
Dana White’s Contender Series 47 takes place Tuesday at the UFC Apex and streams on ESPN+.
