Although they don’t always see eye to eye, Jon Jones has the backing of his promoter, UFC president Dana White, in his beef with Tyson Fury.
The two heavyweight combat sports stars collided on social media recently, with the two engaging in a lengthy back-and-forth. The feud was sparked after UFC commentator and comedian Joe Rogan said that Jones without a doubt would beat Fury in a street fight, something that didn’t sit well with the boxing champion.
Now, a few days removed, White has given his two cents on the drama.
“Jon Jones is the baddest dude on the planet,” White said in an interview with Bro Bible. “There’s no debate, there’s no denying it. Yeah, there’s no debate. I don’t care what anybody says or how they try to spin it. A lot of this stuff is clickbait. You know how I am: If Tyson Fury really wants to fight Jon Jones in the UFC, I will make it happen. Here’s my thing: Right now, Tyson, if you’re serious, let me know.
“Tyson and I have a good relationship. I like Tyson Fury.”
When asked who would win in a fight, White didn’t make a pick. After all, talk is cheap, which almost is always the case with any mention of the UFC getting involved with a crossover fight.
In this case, White said he is willing to offer a UFC contract to Tyson Fury to clear any doubt – even though Fury himself said he wouldn’t do MMA and would only box Jones.
“We can talk all we want,” White said. “Tyson can talk, Jon Jones can talk, I can talk, we can all talk. Let’s do it. If Tyson is serious, and he wants to do it, listen, I got Floyd Mayweather to fight (Conor McGregor), and we paid Floyd. We got Floyd the number he wanted.
“If Tyson Fury is serious, and he wants to fight Jon Jones in the UFC, let’s start talking.”
