Dan Walker's Channel 5 start date confirmed as he 'can't wait' to get started on new role

Dan Walker has declared he 'can't wait to get started,' at Channel 5 as he confirmed the start date for his unexpected new role.

There was shock amongst regular viewers of BBC Breakfast earlier this year when Dan announced he'd be quitting the show and the channel, to take on the new role with a rival broadcaster. Dan told upset fans he was faced with a 'massive decision,' over the move, explaining: "I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me as I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally (Nugent) and I love the team there."

He added: "But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come along very often and I can't wait." It's now been two weeks since Dan sat on BBC Breakfast's famous red sofa for the final time and he's now revealed that viewers will get their first look at him on Channel 5 at 5pm on Monday, June 6.

In a promo video for his debut, Dan says: "It's great to be joining Channel 5, but news is never about who sits in the chair, it's the stories that matter most from a team you can trust"

Dan follows in the footsteps of another former BBC star, Sian Williams, in becoming Channel 5's main news anchor and he also appeared as a guest on the broadcaster's Jeremy Vine Show to exclusively share his start date and his excitement at getting started.

One responded: "Good luck Dan. But it’s a real shame it’s on whilst millions are still working. Way too early for a news programme," with another commenting: "I'll be tuning in can't wait to see you in your new job Dan and sending you masses of good luck not that you need it."
