Dan Patrick Announced When He'll Retire, and Fans Were Bummed out

Longtime sportscaster and radio host Dan Patrick announced on The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday his plan to retire in four years, telling listeners he plans to do the show through the end of 2027 before concluding his career.

Patrick, an icon in the sports talk space who spent 18 years at ESPN and has been a radio host for more than two decades, made the announcement fairly off-handedly during a segment discussing what staffers on the show would do if they won the lottery. Patrick was asked how long he planned on continuing with the show and proclaimed he plans on working four more years.

“Here is the breaking news: Four more years in December, that’s how long I’m going to do this for,” Patrick said, later confirming he plans to depart by the end of 2027.

Later in the show, a caller pleaded with Patrick not to call it quits. Patrick’s response:

“This is a young man’s game,” Patrick said. “I’m the oldest guy doing this. And I enjoy doing it, but by the end of 2027, that’ll be it. You have my word, so plan accordingly.”

The news may be far away from becoming a reality, but that didn’t stop fans of the show from chiming in about its impending departure from the airwaves.
